New Record for World Cup Star Emma Sheers Five years ago, World Cup star Emma Sheers (AUS) set an Australian Open Slalom Record 3.5 buoys on the very short 10.75m line. Two months ago, she added another half buoy to this Australian National Slalom Record and the final approval has just been announced by Bruce Cockburn, Australia’s Tournament Council President. CONGRATULATIONS EMMA. With World Champion titles already in her collection for both Slalom and Jump, it is great to see our World Cup star still hitting the headlines. Leaving the Pyramids and Sphinx behind in Cairo and its 25 million residents, this Wakeboard World Cup Stop took place on the turquoise blue waters of the eastern Mediterranean Sea at Hacienda Bay.  By any standards, this Palm Hills project is a huge development and is certain to change the entire landscape in the coming years. Luxury Villas and Apartments will overlook the golden beaches. With the swimming pools and refreshment areas already complete, this was the perfect World Cup backdrop. Dallas in safe hands Within minutes of receiving the worrying news of the eye infection of Dallas Friday, in transit from the USA, the Palm Hills Developments team and Stryxsports were on the case in Cairo.  They already have a designated escort waiting for her at the Hotel and she will be taken immediately to an International Eye Hospital to make sure all is OK.  Very many thanks to our friends in Egypt for being so helpful and so quick to respond. Dallas Friday Drama We have just received word from Darla Friday, mother of our great World Cup Wakeboard Star, Dallas Friday, that some drama almost prevented her from boarding her Plane to join us at our World Cup Stop today in Egypt. Last Friday in Milwaukee, USA, Dallas picked up an eye infection. By yesterday morning, Monday, her eye was swollen shut. However, as a total athlete, she did not let this prevent her from boarding her Plane and is expected to land at Cairo Airport at 14.25hrs today, Tuesday. All will be done to help as best possible when she arrives. Hats off to Dallas – and we wish her and all the Riders a wonderful Palm Hills Developments World Cup Stop here in Egypt.

Flights carrying Wakeboard World Cup Riders are now arriving in Cairo, Egypt,  from the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Korea, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, China and of course Egypt. In total, 26 of the World’s top IWSF ranked Wakeboard stars have been invited to compete in this Stop of the Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup series. This will be the 23rd such Stop in this global series and following the success of the July Waterski Stop in Dubna, Russia, it will continue on to Singapore, Malaysia and Qatar. Many of us know what a challenge it is to run one major international event on a home site. Attempting to run SIX around the World in one season is a bit tougher. Sometimes plans have to be changed – and this now  is the case for our 2008 season. Our official World Cup shirt lists all SIX 2008 Stops - and ONE must now be rearranged. Our good friends in Chandigarh in northern India have just informed us today that they will have to postpone the scheduled Waterski World Cup Stop till 2009. It is hoped that they will confirm a new date by September 30th this year so that the 2009 World Cup Programme can be published as early as possible. This is a great pity as we know that all in our large World Cup family were greatly looking forward to being involved in a World Cup Stop in...

Immediately after the Waterski World Cup Russia Stop,  our short TV News edit was distributed by Satellite with the help of EBU to 300 million viewers around the World.  Then, our 26 minute edited WORLD CUP TV show was completed in the ProActive Studios in Bristol, England, within four days of that champagne soaked Prize Giving Ceremony in Dubna. This was distributed to an additional 200 million viewers. That is a tight schedule !  Here you can see Des Burke-Kennedy (IWSF) and Andy Grierson (ProActive) completing the voice-over and final edit selection. With such a large global distribution programme, verifying the exact TV broadcast times is not an easy task.
