PHILIPPA WILD CARD MALAYSIA FOR PUTRAJAYA WORLD CUP STOP
IWSF ACCEPTS PHILLIPA YOONG’S ENTRY AS MALAYSIA’S WILD CARD IN WORLD CUP Malaysia’s triple national record holder for Waterski and Jakarta S.E.A.Games gold medallist, Phillipa Yoong, has been given a wild card entry in this weekend’s first ever Waterski World Cup in Malaysia to be held in Putrajaya. She will join the other 8 world class skiers in the Women Slalom event. The nomination made by the Malaysian Water Ski Federation (MWSF) has been accepted by the International Water Ski Federation (IWSF) which promotes the annual Waterski & Wakeboard World Cup in famous cities around the world.

The President of IWSF, Kuno Ritschard said, “It is only appropriate for IWSF to accept Phillipa as Malaysia’s entry as she is one of Asia’s top Slalom and Jump skiers. She may not be ranked amongst the top skiers in the world but her efforts in the Putrajaya Waterski World Cup will be essential in hastening the development efforts by the Malaysian Water Ski Federation. We welcome her to Putrajaya’s World Cup entry list in the Women Slalom event.” Phillipa explained that initially she didn’t feel she should take part as all the invited entries in the World Cup are at least the top 20 ranked skiers of the world and many of them are in the top ten. But after skiing with the early arrivals in the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex in the last two days some of the top ranked skiers she befriended egged her on to accept the nomination. Phillipa said, “The other skiers are hugely talented – skiing with them will be a great honour and it’ll be a shame for me to give up this amazing opportunity to participate in front of my home crowd, and be in the presence of such world class talent. I’ve been inspired to continue training and i hope the event will also inspire more growth of the sport in Malaysia.” Phillipa Yoong had stopped waterskiing competitively 8 years ago as she concentrated in developing her career and family life. She resumed training one month ago and has been instrumental in developing young Malaysian water skiers as MWSF’s National Coach in conjunction with the inaugural Putrajaya Waterski World Cup. The weekend’s programme starts with Practice at 11am on Friday 7th November, the Preliminary Rounds on Saturday from 11am and culminating with the Finals starting at 12 noon on Sunday 9th November. Plenty of fun for the whole family are in store for the weekend. Side events include Formula Future demo, Hot air balloon rides, free banana boat rides, horse riding and exhibitions and remote control planes and boats displays.
