WORLD CUP STAR AND YOUNG FUTURE PROSPECT HIT THIS WEEK’S HEADLINES
After 30 successful World Cup Stops, two Men have dominated most of our Shortboard events in recent years. Nicolas LeForestier FRA holds the World Record which he set in 2005 at 12,400 points. Now recovered from injury, we look forward to having him back with us soon. Last weekend we received reports that his great World Cup challenger, Aliaksei Zharnasek BLR, has just clocked up a score of 12,320 – just 80 points short of that World Record ! This guarantees that 2011 will be a very special one for Shortboard when Nic and Aliaksei take each other on at World Cup Stops.
‘And now for a glimpse of the future !
Jacinta Carroll AUS, known to her friends as Rabbitt, is just 19 years of age. While she is a very strong three event Skier, Jump is where she has a very special talent. Coached by the famous Ray Stokes AUS, she took the Moomba Masters Jump title last March – and will compete in the US Masters in May as a result. All of that was achieved on the low Jump Ramp but last weekend she competed for the first time on the 5ft 6in Ramp and her performances were extraordinary. Jump 1 / 51.9m, Jump 2 / 52.6m and Jump 3 / 53.5m. A decade ago, that would have been a World Record – and all of this from a 19 year old on her first high Ramp performance. Watch out for Jacinta in future World Cup Stops.
