WORLD CUP STARS SHINE AT MOOMBA MASTERS
March 10th, 2009 by des
Our World Cup Stars did us proud on the downtown Yarra River at the Moomba Masters in Australia this year. With the Finals finishing just a few hours ago on Monday evening, it is always a great holiday weekend in Melbourne. Every fan in our sport should enjoy the experience at least once in a lifetime. Chris Parrish USA Lets start with Mens Slalom. You may recall that Chris Parrish USA took the World Cup Slalom title in Putrajaya Malaysia a few months ago and also took the Silver Medal at the Doha World Cup Stop just before Christmas. In challenging conditions on the Yarra today, Chris got 1.5 buoys on the short 10.75m line – to beat the reigning World Cup Slalom Champion, Jodi Fisher GBR, by just one buoy. Congratulations to Chris on a perfect start to the 2009 season. Ty Oppenlander...

MOOMBA TEST FOR WORLD CUP STARS BEGINS TODAY
March 6th, 2009 by des
TOUGH CONDITIONS ON MELBOURNE’S  YARRA RIVER With many of our World Cup Stars on site for the famous Moomba Masters in Melbourne, today was our first chance to see who is in form at this early part of the World Cup season ahead.  Surprisingly, the Yarra River delivered unpredictable weather on Day One and this impacted the results of the early part of the competition. It was cold and wet with temperatures down as low as 12C / 54Fh. World Slalom Record holder Chris Parrish USA emerged top seed after all competitors battled rain, cold and an unusually high tide. He was the only one to get on to the 11.25m line with a score of 5 buoys – with Jodi Fisher GBR and Aaron Larkin NZL nearest on the 12m line. So, it looks like our World Cup Stars are kicking off where they closed...

WORLD CUP PREPARATIONS – AGELIKI ANDRIOPOULOU GRE
March 5th, 2009 by des
Our 2008 World Cup Jump Champion, Ageliki Andriopoulou GRE, removed any doubt whatsoever at the last Stop of the season in Putrajaya in Malaysia that she is the one to beat on the Jump Ramp. Even in the tricky choppy gusty conditions in Putrajaya, she still outperformed all in the field in spite of an arm injury to take the World Cup 2008 season Jump title.  That is the stuff of World Cup Champions. Add to this her World Jump Champion titles of 2005 and 2007, US Open and Moomba Jump titles, plus podium places in Tricks, and what you see is a very talented athlete. Ageliki Celebrates Jump Victory at 2008 Dubna Russia World Cup Stop Ageliki is what we call a natural athlete. This gives her the great advantage that she does not always have to train as hard as some others – and this is...

March 4th, 2009 by des
Aliaksei Zharnasek (BLR) can trick 11,900 points  !  That is just 500 short of a World Record. He has been as high as Rank 2 in the IWSF Elite tables in Tricks. With past US Open and Moomba titles already under his belt, following a disappointing 2008 season, he will now aim at taking the World Cup Shortboard / Tricks title in 2009. Here is an insight to his preparations. Aliaksei Zharnosek performs in the Beijing World Cup Stop As with many top athletes, Aliaksei Zharnasek (BLR) takes his Gym work very seriously. This is a major part of his cross-training programme which also includes running, mountain biking, agility and balance workouts. Over the past few months, he has also taken to the snow ski slopes in the spectacular Taos area of New Mexico, USA. This high altitude work greatly...

March 4th, 2009 by des
AARON PREPARES FOR 2009 WORLD CUP PODIUM SPOTLIGHT Aaron Larkin takes the Doha World Cup Slalom title World Cup Star and Slalom specialist, Aaron Larkin (NZL), had a fantastic season in 2008. Kicking off in a Finals duel with World Record holder Chris Parrish (USA) at the Moomba Masters in Melbourne last March, he very nearly took that title. His Moomba silver medal was his second on the Yarra River in the past two years. By the end of the 2008 World Cup season, he was right on top again when he took the Doha Qatar World Cup Slalom title on that occasion. This was a perfect ending to a great year on the water at the highest level. WORLD CUP VICTORY FOR AARON Since the year-end, Aaron has been back in his NZL homeland giving Waterski Clinics in the North Island. He then took six...

March 3rd, 2009 by des
ELECTORATE RETURNS DUBNA’S WORLD CUP MAYOR FOR ANOTHER FULL TERM Ever since our first World Cup Stop in 2004 in Dubna in Russia, Mayor Valery Prokh has made a major impact  on all concerned. His initial courageous decision to be amongst the very first to host a World Cup Stop showed the way for many others to follow. Most of all, his level of commitment to ensure that each year the Dubna Stop attracted large numbers of spectators and enthralled all with the attention to detail in the presentation itself, left a lasting and positive impression with all those involved in the World Cup programme. Dubna is now a very familiar name to both Skiers and Waterski fans around the world as a result. Mayor Prokh makes special presentation to World Cup Star Clementine Lucine FRA It looks...
