NEW WORLD CHAMPIONS TO MAKE HISTORY AT CABLE WATERSKI WORLD CUP STOP IN SHANGHAI THIS WEEKEND

FIRST EVER CABLE WATERSKI EVENT FOR SHANGHAI WORLD CUP STOP

When the International Olympic Committee (IOC) invited the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) to make a presentation to its Main Board a year ago about Cable Wakeboard and its Olympics potential, the worldwide boom in the opening of new Cable Waterparks was already catching international headlines. With such low cost facilities announced almost daily, the Olympic Lakes in Beijing and Barcelona have already added these youth focussed facilities to improve their own legacy impact.

This coming weekend, October 3/5, the successful World Cup Series of the IWWF will be in the headlines once again. History will be made when for the first time, a Cable Waterski discipline will take centre stage at this 42nd Stop of the Series. The location of the Rixen Cable system will be Bihai Jinsha Water Park on the outskirts of Shanghai. The city’s 14 million population will certainly have a new attraction to enjoy. Located in the Fengxian District, this area has one of the few high quality white sand beaches in the region. The sand was shipped there from Hainan Province! Temperatures of 75F / 24C are forecast with sunny skies.

Chinese Water Ski Association is the official organiser. The event will be operated by the State Water Sports Development Co. Ltd. Cable Waterskiers from 17 countries will compete for World Cup titles in both Slalom and Jump. Show Ski Wakeboard will also be featured. The countries will include Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Germany, China, Great Britain, Greece, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia and USA.

Included this weekend will be four newly crowned Cableski World Champions. Having received their gold medals in Schloss Dankern Germany just a few days ago, the following World Champions will take part – Alexander Vasko (SVK) and Irina Turets (BLR) in Jump, plus Simon Herrmann (GER) and Bianca Schall (AUT) in Slalom. Alexander Vasko also set a new pending World Jump Record last Saturday of 64.2m. This will certainly add to the level of competition at the weekend.

Although this will be the first ever Cable Waterski World Cup Stop, four athletes will benefit from having already competed in Boat World Cup Jump events in the past – Vladimir Ryanzin and Olga Pavlova (RUS), Irina Turets (BLR) and Marie Vympranietsova (GRE). This experience may well help them to get to next Sunday’s World Cup podium. Live results will be posted throughout on the Link below. On this occasion, there will not be a Webcast. Photos and reports will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
